Complex Modeling for Planning Circular Cities
as regenerative, adaptive and sustainable urban systems

The website will be online soon.
In the meantime, have a sneak peek at the model interface

What is a CIRCULAR CITY?

Circular city is a model for the ecological transition of cities that is based on, and promotes, the principles of a “strong” Circular Economy: not aiming for economic growth but for the quality and well-being of society and ecosystems. It involves reducing consumption and promoting sustainable and responsible lifestyles through participatory and collaborative processes that stimulate “citizen agency.” This approach applies to the value chains that permeate the urban system, including consumer goods, food and biomass, mobility, and construction. The management and transformation of these elements are guided by the principles of urban ecology, viewing the city as an “urban ecosystem” with a complex evolutionary dynamic and non-linear relationships, requiring systemic interventions.

How to plan a CIRCULAR CITY?

The model for planning the Circular City identifies specific objectives for 4 Value Chains, delineating 4 territorial principles, and develops multisectoral strategies for each of these principles. It also explores the systemic correlation between these strategies.
The model primarily addresses the need to enhance theoretical clarity with a multidisciplinary perspective, interpreting the role of the Circular City model in the ecological transition of cities. Secondly, it serves as a cognitive tool for understanding and interpreting urban policies.
